Philosophy of Stoicism
Stoicism is the art of living.
A simple explanation of stoicism.
Imagine you have a superpower that helps you stay calm and happy, no matter what happens. That’s what Stoicism is like. It’s about being strong inside and not letting bad things make you sad or angry. You don’t get triggered.
For example, if someone takes your toy, instead of getting upset, you remember that you can still be happy without that toy. Or if it rains when you want to play outside, you find fun things to do inside instead of feeling sad.
Stoicism teaches us to focus on what we can control, like our thoughts and actions, and to let go of things we can’t control, like the weather or what other people do. It helps us be brave and kind, just like a superhero!
Stoicism has nothing to do with being stubborn. The philosophy teaches to understand to let go of control. You can only control your own actions. It is about being grateful for what you have in your life and also accept changes in life. We fear change and yet, change is necessary to evolve. It is being able to live your life as you own conductor cooperating with others without being dependent on them.
Love as apatheia. It is about being emotionally resilient and regulated. It is loving without fear, despair, jealousy or pain. Pursuing happiness is about finding meaning and purpose.
Love is a conscious decision and if you need someone to make you happy, this is called co-dependent love. If you feel jealous or envious of other people, you compare yourself to them and this is a sign of low self-esteem or that you think that they have something that you do not possess. Be assured that you have something, they don’t possess – you just don’t know what it is.
Love does not hurt.
When it comes to wealth – A Stoic does not love wealth, but he would rather have it. If you love something too much, it becomes an obsession.
It is about nourishing the soul. (link to spirituality tool)
